In this first part of the series, Michael Ray and I discuss George Engel’s 1977 piece challenging the Biomedical model.
We discuss Engel’s perspective on biomedicine as well as explore a historical perspective of biomedicine. We have a discussion on what a model is and why we have them, as well as bring up why folk models matters as contributions to our current healthcare epidemic. We then discuss the cost of Biomedicine, including it’s shortcomings, but more importantly, why it is harming society, and Engels vision of a more inclusive perspective on how to best treat humans.
We hope you enjoy this episode and we HIGHLY encourage you to read this paper for your self.
