Have you ever had someone you know and respect say something that you disagree with on an emotional level? What is your reaction? Challenge them? Avoid them?
There seems to be a larger scale issue in how we are handling these situations. And we have learned FIRST HAND from our mistakes on "less effective" ways to go about it. It is so easy to be antagonistic, or just withdraw; but to be honest, neither of these tactics really do anything to push our profession forward.
This is NOT a call to “just all get along,” but rather a call to action to all look inward, and move forward with a better ability to have challenging (and productive) conversations!
What if we could keep it real with each other, but respect and listen to each other…is this possible? Maybe not 100%, but I DO think we can do MUCH better.
